ADMISSION

 

The academic session of the College extends from 1st July to 30th June every year. All classes are open to both men and women students except the B.Ed course in Department of Education which is restricted to women students. Application for admission must be made on the on-line application form available in the website: www.scottishadmissions.com. The originals must be produced at the time of admission and college fees must be paid immediately after verification of the documents. Admission will be given strictly in accordance with the norms prescribed by the Admission Committee.

The College offers the following Honours courses of study in the B.A./B.Sc. stream. The College does not offer any 3-year General Course. (Admissions to B.Ed, BBA and post-graduate courses are done separately.)

As a Christian Minority Institution, the College reserves some seats for eligible Christian candidates.


For SC/ST applicants, the following minimum as required by the Calcutta University applies.

Minimum 40% marks in aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subject at the qualifying examination.


 

For PH/Christian applicants, minimum criteria to apply are as follows:

  1. A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject in the qualifying examination. - OR -
  2. 55% marks in the subject or related subject in the qualifying examination - OR -
  3. 50% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied.


Please note that the admission norms are the same for West Bengal Board and Other Board applicants.


Norms for Admission to B.A. Honours Courses - General Merit Category

  (Those who qualified in 2009 are preferred.)

1. Aggregate means Total Marks of Best FOUR subjects excluding ENVS
2. Must have passed in English (at least 100 marks paper)
3. Admission is offered according to Merit (based on Index Mark)

Minimum eligibility to apply

Aggregate = (English + Maths + Eco + 2 Other best) or (English + Maths + Eco + Other best)

With Economics: 60% in Aggregate & 50% in English & 60% in Maths & 60% in Economics

Without Economics: 60% in Aggregate & 50% in English & 60% in Maths

 

IIndex Mark: Index Mark = 40% of Aggregate + 60% of Marks in Mathematics

 

Those with Business Mathematics for ISC are also eligible to apply as per CU Norms.


COLLEGE RULES (to be updated)  

1)      Students are required to maintain regular attendance as per Calcutta University regulation:

 

i)        Attendance 75% and above for collegiate students.

 

ii)       Attendance 60% and above but less than 75% for non collegiate students (with fine).

  iii)    Attendance below 60%--not eligible to be sent up or promoted.

2)      Students should not be absent for more than 15 days without valid reasons.

 

3)      Students who are absent for more than two consecutive weeks are liable to have their names struck off the register.

 

4)      Science students must attend both theoretical and practical classes regularly. Students must not loiter within the campus.

            Students who do not attend theoretical classes regularly should not be permitted to attend practical classes.

 

5)      Students must pass the college examinations for class promotions and for appearing at the final examination.

 

6)      Students must carry thier Identity Cards during college hours inside the College. A student must produce Identity Card as and when demanded. It should be carefully preserved. In case of loss of Identity Card, a duplicate can be obtained only on permission by the Principal/the Vice-Principal and on payment of a fine of Rs. 20/-.

 

7)      A student failing to clear the fees within notified date will have to secure re-admission on payment of full fees again with prior approval of the Principal.

 

8)      Use of tobaco products including smoking is strictly prohibited within the College and Hostel campuses.

9)      MOBILE PHONES are liable to be confiscated if used within the college campus.

  10)      Any change in combination for elective subject(s) with the approval of the Vice-Principal must be done within one month from the date of commencement of classes. No application in this regard will be entertained after that.

 

11)   Subject which is not taught in the college will not be permitted in the combination of subjects.

 

12)   Students are expected to treat the members of the staff and their fellow students with courtesy both inside and outside the College. There must be no disorderly or offensive conduct at any time.

 

13)  Students must be in their classes and take their seats when the bell rings at the beginning of each period. They must not enter or leave the class room without permission.

 

14)   College property, furniture, library books, etc, must be treated with due care.

 

15)   Rules for the conduct of examinations are placed on the Notice Board and must be strictly observed.

 

  16)   Impersonation at roll call is an offence. The Principal/the Vice Principal has authority to impose fine or other appropriate punishment and in extreme cases may suspend or expel an offender.

 

17)  Students are required to see the Notice Board for any important notice before they leave the college every day.

 

18)   Students are expected to be formally dressed for classes.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

HOSTELS

 

For the accommodation of outstation students the College has five hostels, viz the Lady Jane Dundas Hostel (for girls), the Students' Residence (for girls), the Duff Hostel, the Wann Hostel and the Ogilvie Hostel. The Lady Jane Dundas Hostel and Duff Hostel are primarily for Christian students.

 

LIBRARY

 

The college has a large and well-equipped Library containing more than seventy five thousand books, journals and periodicals on various subject. This is complemented by the several departmental libraries serving specific needs of the Honours students. There is also a Book Bank from which students may borrow text books as well.

 

ATHLETICS

 

The college has a spacious playground situated at Canal East Road intended for the students of the College and Collegiate school. Football, Cricket, Badminton, Hockey, Basket-ball and Volley-ball are played here.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS AND PRIZES

 

Several scholarships are given to the students by the College. Concession in fees and stipends are also granted to deserving candidates. Good academic performance is acknowledged with a large number of prizes every year.

 

STUDENTS' HEALTH HOME

 

Students are required to take a membership of the Students' Health Home by paying the necessary charges per session.

 

Admission to the College is granted provisionally on the understanding that the student undertakes to conform in all respects to the rules and discipline of the College.

Fee to be paid at the time of admission

The fee shown below (subject to minor changes) includes Admission Fee, Annual Fee, Lab Charges, Lab Development Fee, Library Caution Money and, Tuition Fee for six months (July to December). The tuition fee for the remaining months is to be paid in January.
